Perhaps you saw the news yesterday that Lowe’s and Home Depot results were better than expected, showing that people are once again putting money back into their homes.

Perhaps you are debating between renovating the kitchen or replacing your windows?? Here is a look at a few projects from a recently completed national survey by Remodeling Magazine that will give you the best bang for the buck on your local home improvements:

  1.  Front Door – Believe it or not, a new steel door will actually hold more than 100% of it’s value on a dollar for dollar repalcement.
  2.  New Garage Door – 84%
  3.  Fiber Cement Siding -80%
  4.  Wood Deck – 73%
  5.  Minor Kitchen Remodel- 73%
  6.  Wood Windows – 73%
  7.  Remodeled Attic into a bedroom -72%
  8.  Finished Basement – 70%
  9.  Completely New Kitchen – 68%
  10. . Two Story Addition – 65%
Now, some of those improvements simple do not gel in here locally in Costa Mea. Obviously we do not have basements and it would be very rare to have the kind of attic space you need to create a bedroom. Additionally, putting wood windows in this close to the beach/ocean will give you years and years of constantly redoing the windows because of our climate.
 
What are the improvements that Costa Mesa real estate buyers are looking for today?
 
Would you think new roof, beautiful landscaping, or tile floors?
 
NOPE! The top few that we see each week are wood floors, remodeled kitchens with granite counters, remodeled baths, and new windows.
