Do You Look For a Garage?

I see two things that locally here in Costa Mesa that might be a bit off. First off, the people I know looking for homes in Costa Mesa are looking for a garage. Whether that garage is used for storage or cars, believe me, a garage is pretty high on the want/need list.
 
I definitely get the trend here in the infographic. I think it is more of a builder’s hand being forced to maximize smaller parcels by putting more homes on land. The easiest way to put more homes on an area of land is to reduce the size of the home, and one good way to do that is to remove the garage. A typical garage can take as much as 1/2 of a small two story home’s footprint.
 
Have we seen homes like this in Costa Mesa? Not really is the quick answer. The building code is forcing homes that have a garage. Where it is happening locally is with condominium complexes that might have a carport or common parking for the complex.
 

What about the porch?

Everyone that I take looking for homes in Costa Mesa would love a big front porch. It’s one of those design elements that harkens back to a simpler day, almost reminiscent of an old farmhouse-style home with a wide, welcoming porch.
 

Why Not Here in Costa Mesa?

We won’t see much of this type of living situation because our town is mostly built out. The plan for the redevelopment of Westside Costa Mesa would have live/work elements that would not have garages with homes and would produce more social interactions among residents. That would be a nice addition for our city and a nice option for those who want to live in Costa Mesa.
