About the South Coast Metro Area
The South Coast Metro area has become a broader name for the area around South Coast Plaza here in Costa Mesa. While the name also applies to many homes and condos in neighboring Santa Ana, our Costa Mesa real estate area only focuses this website on the Costa Mesa homes and condos in these areas around us. The “South Coast Metro” moniker is one that was created for our real estate purposes as realtors a long time ago. The South Coast Metro area grew quickly around the time that the famous South Coast Plaza mall was built, with many of the neighborhoods being built in the late 1960s and 1970s. South Coast Plaza was originally built in 1966 and was anchored then by the popular May Company and Sears, which signed on for a $1 a year lease!
Aside from the mall, there is lots of other shopping centers, business centers, and restaurants in the South Coast Metro area. It is arguably one of the best places for ease of access to stores and restaurants in any part of Costa Mesa real estate.
Location
The official location for Costa Mesa real estate is the area that borders the mall in all directions in the north to Sunflower Blvd, to the western location of Harbor Blvd, to the south on all locations of Baker Street, and through to the corner where the 405 freeway meets the 73 freeway.
Businesses and Convenience of the South Coast Metro Area
Aside from the mall, there are an amazing amount of corporate business locations as well as retail and shopping. A short list of businesses finds that the headquarters to Experian is here, along with Deloitte, Mercedes Benz, ETrade and others. Retail and shopping abounds- but a few of my favorites are Best Buy, Target, Mastro’s Steakhouse, Pizzeria Ortica, and my friend Fleurant and Amy’s restaurant in the mall called Marche Moderne.
