The State Streets Neighborhood : Mesa Verde

Location

The “State Streets” neighborhood is the group of homes that sits between the 405 Freeway (northern border), California, Iowa, and New Hampshire Streets to the East, Gisler Ave. to the South, and the Santa Ana River trail to the West.

The State Streets are named after, you guessed it, all of the states in America!  There are three distinct builder tracts here in this part of Costa Mesa real estate, and the State Streets neighborhood is a wonderful group of homes built between 1960 and 1971.

Neighborhood Feel

There is a really nice neighborhood feel in this neighborhood.  There are wide drives, good sized lots, and most of the homes in the first two build-outs are single story homes of typically 3 or 4 bedrooms.  California Street runs directly through the middle of this Costa Mesa real estate area and  separates a good part of the nieghborhood into cul-de-sacs.  There are some through streets, but overall the neighborhood has a good design that cuts down on streets being busy.  The last built section of the State Streets was built around 1971 and has homes that feature more two story floor plans.

Interesting Info

There are two access points for the Santa Ana River Trail, and if you’ve never taken a walk or ride, this is a great adventure.  It’s only about 3 miles to the beach, so it’s a super easy ride.

Schools

The main two schools that serve this area are California Elementary and Tewinkle Jr. High; they are located at the entry to this neighborhood at the corner of California and Gisler Ave, and both are excellent Costa Mesa schools.

Parks

Moon Park is a super cool park!! It is located all the way in the back corner of the neighborhood and has a huge moonscape for kids to play on.  It’s straight outta the 60′s and was built as a tribute to the astronauts landing on the moon in 1969.  There is of course play equipment for the kids as well, and it also provides access to the Santa Ana river trail so you can go to Angles Stadium or the beach!
