Mesa Del Mar Neighborhood History
The neighborhood was built way back in the early 60’s when these homes were built around 1963 and 1964. Costa Mesa at that time was going through a construction boom with neighborhoods in the State Streets and Mesa Verde neighborhoods being built after College Park and Halecrest successfully sold out in the late 50’s and early 60s.
The neighborhood today is a mix of original owners, families who bought as second owners and are now empty nesters, and new families coming in and raising families. People who live here love the convenience of being in close proximity to the 73 and 405 freeways, The Mesa North shopping center which features Starbucks, The Hoag Health Center and French’s Bakery. OCC is just across the way on Fairview Drive, The Orange County Fairgrounds are just across the way on Arlington Drive, and local residents can walk to the Pacific Amphitheater, which has world class entertainers perform, especially during the OC Fair. Tewinkle Park is one of Costa Mesa’s largest and best parks, and it is within walking distance of most of the neighborhood.
There is a July 4th parade every July 4th holiday where residents decorate their bikes and was and ride through the neighborhood for fun.
Types of Homes
Most of the homes are single story ranch style homes, but there are some large two story homes as well. The single story homes range in size from about 1400 square feet to the upper 1800 square foot range unless owners have added additions or square footage. the two story homes are four and 5 bedroom models and have as much as 2800 square feet. A new built community called The Grove at Mesa Del Mar opened in 2013 within the Mesa Del Mar Neighborhood and featured homes on smaller lots of about 2200-2400 square feet.
